The Learning Disabilites Association of Pennsylvania, Inc., formerly PACLD, is a state affiliate of the National Learning Disabilities Association of America, and is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization founded in 1964 and incorporated in 1966 to enhance the quality of life for all individuals with learning disabilities. LDAPA is a parent-driven organization offering advocacy and support. LDAPA members include persons with learning disabilites, parents of persons with learning disabilities, and concerned professionals.
LDAPA provides technical assistance for the formation of local affiliates and support groups, encouraging and strengthening efforts to promote services and programs within various communities. LDAPA distributes a newsletter to members, operates a resource depository, acts as a center referring individuals to sources of information and assistance, and sponsors an annual state conference. Annual conferences and workshops are sponsored by LDAPA to provide parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals with a deeper understanding of learning disabilities.
LDAPA does not endorse any particular treatment, product, therapy, institution, program or person. It does, however, present many ways to assist persons with learning disabilities in reaching their full potential.
LDAPA is governed by the Board of Directors, which is comprised of the Executive Board (elected officers), Board of Directors, and County affiliates.The Board of Directors develops policies, conducts organizaation business, and has special committees assigned to specific activities and programs. The officers and Board members are volunteers. LDAPA receives counsel on professional and technical interpretations of matters relative to learning disabilities from its Professional Advisory Board. This Board is chosen from leaders in the field of learning disabilities and allied professions. In some areas of the state, local affiliates offer support and information.
LDAPA continually monitors state and national legislative activities. Vital issues are communicated to local affiliates and support groups, along with guidance and coordination for taking appropriate action.
